Hey traders! 🚀 Ever planned your perfect trade only to realize the market’s closed? Yeah, we’ve all been there.
That’s why knowing the NSE Holidays List for 2025 is important to dodge those “Oops” moments. We’ll walk you through Holiday list, trading hours, Muhurat Trading and more.
Let’s dive in!
About NSE
Think of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as the heart of India’s financial world. It’s where companies meet investors, dreams meet capital, and you get to be part of the action.
Founded in 1992, the NSE revolutionized trading with tech-driven systems that made buying/shares as easy as ordering pizza. 🍕 (Okay, almost.)
Why care? From equities to derivatives, the NSE handles trillions daily. It’s transparent, efficient, and home to the Nifty 50 – the index everyone’s glued to.
For you: Lower risks, fair pricing, and a platform trusted by millions. Pro tip: Bookmark their official site for real-time updates.
Before we deep dive, here is something helpful for you, we have created the NSE Holiday Calendar on Google Calendar, which you can track directly from your Google Calendar.

Key Trading Sessions & Timings
1. Pre-Open Session (9:00 AM – 9:15 AM)
What’s this? The market’s warm-up! Investors place orders before the chaos begins.
Why it matters: Helps discover opening prices.
2. Regular Trading (9:15 AM – 3:30 PM)
The main event! Equity, derivatives, and ETFs trade non-stop.
Peak hours: 9:30-11:30 AM (highest volatility). Perfect for day traders.
3. Closing Session (3:30 PM – 3:40 PM)
Last call for orders! Determines the day’s closing price.
Watch out: Prices can swing sharply here. Set alerts if you’re not glued to the screen.
4. Block Deal Session (8:45 AM – 9:00 AM) and (02:05 PM to 02:20 PM)
Big players only! Trades worth ₹10+ crores happen here.
Why you should care: These deals hint at institutional moves – a clue for your next trade.
5. Internationally Linked Agricultural Commodities (5:00 PM to 9:00 PM/9:30 PM)
For crops like soybeans or crude, timings sync with global markets (e.g., Chicago, London).
Pro tip: Check global news – a drought in Brazil can shake up your Indian soybean trades.
Muhurat Trading
Diwali lights twinkling and you sipping chai while placing a trade for good luck?
🪔 That’s Muhurat Trading for you – a 1-hour magical window where tradition meets trading.
This year, the NSE will shut its regular doors on October 21, 2025 (Tuesday) for Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Muhurat Trading will light up the same day. Exact timings aren’t out yet (NSE will announce via circular), but it’s usually 1-1.5 hours post-sunset. Think 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM-ish.
Why Muhurat Trading?
Hindus believe Goddess Lakshmi blesses new ventures during Diwali. Buying stocks (even ₹100 worth!) is seen as inviting wealth.
In 2023, the Sensex jumped 355 points-FOMO is real!
Volatility alert: Prices can swing fast in this short window. Limit orders > market orders!

Is Today a Share Market Holiday? Here’s How to Instantly Check
To confirm if today is a stock market holiday, first cross-reference the date with the 2025 NSE closure list provided above. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) follows a pre-scheduled holiday calendar for events like Diwali, Independence Day, and national observances. However, unplanned closures (e.g., technical outages, emergencies) are rare but possible.
Final Thoughts
Let’s recap: The NSE will take a break on the dates we’ve listed, so mark them, set reminders, and don’t get caught mid-trade when the lights go off. If the NSE adds new holidays later (they sometimes do!), we’ll update this guide faster than you can say “bull market.”
